MySchoolScout provides free, transparent school ratings and rankings for every K-12 public school in America. We believe every family deserves easy access to clear, data-driven information about their school options.
Our Data Sources
All ratings are built exclusively from publicly available government data. We pull school demographics, enrollment, and operational data from the NCES Common Core of Data, and academic performance data directly from each state's department of education.
No Hidden Agenda
Schools cannot pay for better ratings. We don't sell leads to private schools or tutoring companies. Our methodology is fully transparent and documented on our Methodology page.

Founder & Data Architect
Data systems expert with 10+ years of experience building data architecture and revenue infrastructure at B2B SaaS technology companies. Parent of school-age kids with a personal stake in the answers School Scout publishes.
School Scout was built after a decade of turning messy, complex datasets into actionable tools — and as a parent personally researching schools for my own family. Evaluating out-of-state school districts when buying a home is genuinely hard, and the rankings, ratings, and rubrics published here are the same ones I rely on for my own kids. That's the bar: honest, free, data-driven — no pay-for-placement, no sponsored rankings, no affiliate pressure on the scoring model.
